‘Eagle’ pilots help spirits soar in time of need | Letters

I cannot express enough gratitude to the local Silver Eagle pilots, Toyota, the Skagit Valley Airport personnel, and Ernie’s Cafe for their care, concern, and support during this uncertain period.

Recently I completed eight weeks (39 treatments, 5 days a week), of radiation for prostate cancer at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.

Of these 39 treatments, I was treated to 33 flights by the Silver Eagles of Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor airports who generously flew me and two other radiation patients (at the pilot’s own expense) to the mainland where we took a car donated by Toyota to the hospital and back.

The treatments were tiring and without the benevolence of these kind-hearted individuals, the transportation from and back to the island would have been exhausting and overwhelming. I cannot express enough gratitude to the local Silver Eagle pilots, Toyota, the Skagit Valley Airport personnel, and Ernie’s Cafe for their care, concern, and support during this uncertain period.

We all know this island is a special place, but it becomes exceptionally special when we need it most. Thanks again to everyone who helped me and my flying companions through a difficult time and made getting there all of the fun.
