Beyond grateful Sheriff’s Office has stepped up in animal cruelty case

I’ve lived on San Juan Island for over 15 years. During most of that time, up until Eric Peter was elected Sheriff, I worked alongside many other islanders trying to ensure that our county had legitimate animal control procedures in place, out of concern for the safety of both animals and people alike. For many, many years, our concerns fell on deaf ears. I’m beyond grateful that our Sheriff’s Office has stepped up and done the right, lawful thing in bringing charges against Raymont Jackson for animal cruelty. When animal cruelty occurs to the degree the Jackson dog was subjected to, we as a community deserve to know that situations like this will not be swept under the rug and ignored as in the past.

Justice will truly occur if the judge who hears the case does not allow the return of the dog to the Jackson home, and the defendant surrenders the dog to The Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor.
