    Matt Johnson, son of Kerwin and Margaret Johnson and son-in-law of Rick and Karen King, has passed away. His wife, Jackie, announced on the family’s Web site that he took his last breath at 3:16 p.m. Thursday. He was 35.

    The end of camping on Matia and Turn islands is one of the options being considered in a conservation plan being developed for the San Juan Islands National Wildlife Refuge. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is developing a Comprehensive Conservation Plan for the national wildlife refuges on Protection Island — near Port Angeles — and in the San Juan Islands. The conservation plan will guide refuge management decisions for the next 15 years and beyond.
