As it turns out, Mojo rebounded like a NBA all-star in a 14-week convalescence at the wildlife rehab center. After two weeks in intensive care, the pup had regained enough strength to be moved into an outdoor enclosure where it could swim in a pool, lounge in the sun and eat, eat, and eat. Which it did.
One the heels of the Friday Harbor softball team’s championship season, its second in a row, pitcher Jean Melborne and first-year coach Nickie Davis earned top post-seasons awards. Melborne was named Northwest 1A/2B League MVP; Davis was selected league Coach of the Year.

The 2012 Great Island Cleanup is dedicated in memory of Patt Martin, San Juan County’s litter program coordinator for a dozen years, 1998-2010. Martin, who many credit with putting together the county litter control program almost single-handily and turning it into a well-organized and effective operation, passed away in early 2011.
Chief of interpretation and education at Mount Rainier, Lee Taylor, a 30-year National Parks Service veteran, will take on her first superintendent assignment at San Juan Island’s national park.
WSF Director of Operations David Rogers said a portable “laser-measuring device” was designed in-house by WSF engineers at the agency’s maintenance facility in Eagle Harbor. The devices have been deployed to “measuring stations” throughout the system, including the Anacortes terminal, and he expects that the measuring process, if needed, will be more efficient and precise.
