6.6 quake off Canada’s Pacific Coast; no reports of injury or tsunami

A 6.6 earthquake struck the southern end of the Queen Charlotte Islands off Canada's Pacific Coast early Nov. 17. There were no immediate reports of injury or tsunami. The quake was felt as far away as Bulkley Valley in northwest British Columbia.

According to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, the quake struck at 7:30 a.m. at 52.1 degrees north latitude, 131.1 west longitude. The epicenter is located in a sparsely populated area of the island. Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site is located near there, as is the Rose Harbour Guest House, a former whaling station. Both are accessible only by boat or plane.
