Exhibition Details
More than 100 artists, both emerging and well-established, will have their works on display, filling the galleries of the San Juan Islands Museum of Art. The exhibition showcases an impressive range of artistic disciplines, including sculpture, textiles, painting, glass, woodwork, printmaking, pastels, photography, metalwork, drawing, encaustic, pottery, mixed media, assemblage, digital art, jewelry, and more. Lopez Island artists Bryn Barnard and Kelly O’Dell exemplify the breadth of mediums represented in this year’s show. Bryn Barnard’s thought-provoking oil painting, “A Matter of Time,” offers a meditation on how we perceive and measure time. Kelly O’Dell’s luminous glass sculpture, “Tidepool,” takes the form of a spiral shell in its watery element.
Much of the work on display draws inspiration from the Islands. For example, San Juan Islander Nancy Spaulding’s pastel “Moonlight Encounter” features a fox illuminated by moonlight, while Stuart Islander Diana Friend’s “Umbel Floret II” utilizes locally sourced Madrona wood burls to form an evocative sculpture.
The Artist Registry show is truly a must-see event, packed with surprises and offering a comprehensive showcase of the visual artistic talent found on the Islands. People come away every year saying, “I had no idea we had so much artistic talent in the Islands.”
