We are an island community where people care about each other. We strongly support Proposition 1 which requests funds to preserve local health care for islanders. The present levy is 51 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation; it increases the levy by 20 cents.

The current cuts proposed for federal health care (e.g. Medicaid, ACA insurance) result in the need to increase funds for health care services for islanders provided by our Public Hospital District.

The Hospital District supports:

1) assisted living at Village at the Harbor.

2) EMS including their paramedicine program which fills gaps in care for individuals (e.g. wound care) who are often senior citizens.

3) Village at Home, the only licensed Home Care service in the County, started in 2024.

4) annually subsidizes Peace Island Hospital based on a 2012 contract which enabled it to be located on San Juan Island.

5) subsidizes Planned Parenthood so it can continue to operate in Friday Harbor.

We urge you to vote “Yes” on Proposition 1.
