The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

July 2

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a theft call. The incident was documented, and the investigation is ongoing.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who failed to renew expired registration greater than two months on Crescent Beach Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction and given a verbal warning for other infractions.

• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to the emergency room in Friday Harbor to speak with someone who wanted to report a domestic incident.

July 3

• A vessel was reported missing from Orcas Island overnight. A report was taken, and the Coast Guard was alerted.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a cold domestic dispute. An investigation revealed a potential attempted assault; however, the alleged victim advised they did not wish to pursue the matter.

• An overnight prowling incident was reported at a house of worship on Orcas Island. A report was taken.

• Over 20 single-serving-sized Fireball whiskey bottles were found littered around a Lopez Island park along Fish Bay Road. This occurred over the past few weeks.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a welfare check. The deputy discovered that the person was deceased, and a report was taken.

• A phone was turned into the Sheriff’s Office in Eastsound.

• An Orcas Island deputy assisted Child Protective Services with an allegation in the Eastsound area. The deputy investigated the allegation, which revealed no crime was committed. The incident was documented.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of a theft of mail. This case is still under investigation.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of trespassing. An individual was arrested for criminal trespass in the second degree and obstructing a law enforcement officer. They were booked into jail.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a suicide attempt. The victim was located and transported to the hospital for treatment.

July 4

• The Sheriff’s Office received a report of stolen mail. Multiple packages were opened, contents taken and the boxes dumped in the woods.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a theft at a local business. The juvenile suspect was located while waiting to board a ferry, and the item was recovered. The deputy’s report was forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office.

• An Orcas Island deputy received a tip from a citizen that prevented a possible DUI in the West Sound area. The Sheriff’s Office understands that it takes a strong community to look out for one another. The Sheriff’s Office gave the person a courtesy ride home.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was issued a citation for driving while license suspended in the third degree and an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

July 5

• A San Juan deputy responded to a rollover collision on Roche Harbor Road. The driver exhibited no signs of impairment, and evidence of deer involvement was present at the scene.

• A Lopez resident reported hit-and-run damage to their vehicle while it was parked at a village business.

• A Lopez man damaged a family member’s vehicle. A report was completed.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 74 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speeding.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a residential burglary in Eastsound. The victim’s residence is a summer home, and they returned for the summer to find a few items missing and some property damage. The incident was documented.

July 6

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a minor fender bender near the ferry landing. Both drivers conducted an exchange of information. The deputy authored a report for the insurance company.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a two-car traffic collision. The deputy investigated the collision and gave an infraction to the at-fault driver for failing to yield the right of way.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a suspicious call in the Rosario area. Local citizens reported that a local delivery business dropped off a junk vehicle at an abandoned property. The deputy authored a report, and an investigation is ongoing.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an animal problem in the Eastsound area. The victim had photo evidence of an animal at large. The deputy talked with the dog owner and explained the San Juan County animal-at-large ordinance. The dog owner was issued a verbal warning for an animal at large.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a civil call. The reporting party advised of a parenting plan violation. The incident was documented.

July 7

• A deputy on Orcas Island was dispatched to a collision inside Moran State Park. The at-fault driver was issued infractions.

• San Juan Deputies responded to the area of Bailer Hill Road and Wade Lane for a two-vehicle collision. The vehicles were stopped in a construction zone when one of the vehicles suddenly accelerated into the rear of the other one. No serious injuries were reported.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a theft. The deputy took the report, and there are currently no suspects.

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a threats call. The individual was arrested for trespassing and booked into the San Juan County Jail. The incident was documented.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of trouble unknown from a call into 911. The deputy contacted the parties involved and discovered that they were in a dispute. One of the people left the area.

July 8

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision. The incident was documented.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a local business regarding a possible attempted burglary. No entry was made into the business. The incident was documented.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a single-vehicle collision. The collision caused heavy damage to the vehicle and public property. The deputy completed a collision report.
