The University of Washington Friday Harbor Labs holds an Open House, Saturday, May 14, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Scientists and students will discuss their research in marine sciences, answer questions and provide demonstrations. The tours and hands-on demonstrations will have marine plants and animals, microscopes and plankton sampling for visitors. You can step aboard the 58-foot research vessel and see its remotely operated vehicle ROV, oceanographic tools, and high-tech sonar systems. There will also be a demonstration of SCUBA equipment and a SCUBA dive from the Friday Harbor Laboratories dock.
Wear sturdy shoes for the tour route, which includes rough dock planks, gravel paths and trails.
