On June 7, at the Friday Harbor High School graduation ceremony, Soroptimist President Patty Brightman and President-Elect Eileen Frazer presented seven scholarships to deserving high school seniors. We awarded one STEM scholarship, five four-year college scholarships and one community scholarship.
The STEM scholarship was presented to Megan Mellinger, who will be attending the University of Washington and will study bioengineering.
Of the five four-year college scholarships presented, Kira Clark will attend Whitworth University and plans to study health science. Georgia Keune will attend the University of Washington to earn a degree in psychology and criminal justice and ultimately attend law school. Nylah Pieples is bound for Boise State and will study business. The University of Notre Dame is where Katherine Youngsman will study international economics and math with a minor in German. Paloma Waldron will attend the University of Arizona and pursue a degree in business and sports management.
Our community college scholarship was awarded to Kailey Raivo, who will attend Bellevue Community College to become an ultrasound technologist.
We are proud of these young women and are thankful to our community, who support Soroptimists through our fundraisers and online giving. Soroptimists is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) international organization dedicated to helping women and girls in accessing education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
