We’re headed to American Camp this Saturday, May 31st, for our monthly Know Your Island Walk.

Submitted by the San Juan Island Trails Committee

Join former Chief of Interpretation for San Juan Island National Historical Park, Mike Vouri, for a 3-mile walk through American Camp. We’ll start at the Visitor Center to view a mural depicting Coast Salish life at South Beach 2,000 years ago. From there, we’ll walk to the bluffs above Granny’s Cove and follow the trail to South Beach to see the landscape featured in the mural.

Along the way, Mike will share the history of American Camp, from early European settlement to the Pig War and joint occupation. The hike concludes along the South Beach Trail back to the Visitor Center. Leashed dogs welcome.

How to Get There: Access via Cattle Point Road; parking at American Camp Visitor Center and South Beach.
