Sidney Everett Clark was born in Faith, South Dakota on October 7, 1938 to William Everett Clark and Thelma Grace Peterson Clark. He died unexpectedly on September 4, 2016 at home in Friday Harbor, Washington.
Sid was raised in his earlier years in eastern Washington, where his father worked in Hanford, WA on the Manhattan Project. They moved to Deer Park, WA for a few years and then he and his mother moved back to Faith after his father’s death. Sid graduated from Faith High School in 1957, and the So. Dak. School of Mines and Technology in 1961 with a B.S. degree in civil engineering. While with the U.S. Public Health Service (1961-1966) he attended the University of California, Berkeley, graduating in 1964 with a Master’s in Sanitary Engineering. His career was spent in the field of Wastewater Treatment. He was Director of Public Works for the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska from 1971-1973. In 1973, he formed his own engineering company, doing work for the oil companies on the North Slope during the development of the Prudhoe Bay Oil Fields. While in Alaska, he earned his private pilot license with an instrument rating. He enjoyed many hours out fishing and hunting in his plane with his kids and friends.
The family moved to Madison WI in 1989 where he continued working in his field, primarily for Chicago Bridge and Iron. He held 6 patents for work in wastewater treatment processing. He was a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Washington.
In 2015, he and his wife, Susan, were able to move to their home on Friday Harbor after several years of developing the property.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan, a son Scott (Lynn) Clark of Peoria, AZ; a daughter Dr. Suzanne Clark, Youngsville, NC, and son Lt. Cmdr. James (M.D.) (Dr. Theresa) Clark of Chesapeake, VA. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Kameryn, John, and Joseph Clark of Peoria, AZ and Kenneth, Edward, Margaret Clark and an expected grandchild in 2017 of Chesapeake, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
