The San Juan Island National Historic Park gave islanders a taste of the 19th century, when historical re-enactors made their homestead in English Camp on San Juan Island over the weekend.
Re-enactors exposed visitors to the realities of settler life, explaining how to load and fire a flint lock rifle, showing how settlers and soldier dressed in the era, as well as what the tents they called home looked like. Crafts were also made using authentic techniques from the period. Cowlitz tribe member Judy Bridges and her husband weaved period baskets for visitors, and San Juan Textile Guild members demonstrated how to turn raw wool into usable clothing.
