Local musician Teddy Deane said two signs supporting San Juan County Proposition 1 were stolen from his property.
He posted a third sign, which states, “You can steal my sign, but you can’t steal my vote. Yes on Prop. 1.
“The skid marks are still there where the thief pulled out quickly,” Deane wrote in an e-mail about the alleged thefts.
“Naturally, I’m surprised and really upset. I wanted to call your attention to the lengths at which someone who opposes Prop. 1 will go to stop funding for Senior Services, 4-H, Master Gardeners, Parks, Health Services and much more.”
Deane said the sign thefts are not “democracy in action, this is a criminal in action.”
Sheriff Bill Cumming said Tuesday that he’s received only one report — Deane’s — of theft of a political sign.
