The University of Washington Friday Harbor Labs will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 12. Explore UW’s internationally acclaimed marine lab located in the heart of the Salish Sea.
On your self-guided tour you can touch sea life, catch plankton, use a microscope, view SCUBA diving demos, listen to a scientific lecture and get a behind-the-scenes look at cutting-edge research facilities.
Below is the lecture schedule:
– Noon, “Hot Times for Coastal Critters,” Hillary Hayford, Ph.D.
– 1 p.m., “Life in the Trenches,” Mckenzie Gerringer, Ph.D.
– 2 p.m., “River Otters in a Land Without Water,” Brent Hughes, Ph. D.
Hop aboard the 58-foot research vessel, Centennial, and check out the remotely operated vehicle, oceanographic tools, sonar systems, and enjoy freshly made popcorn.
UW Friday Harbor Labs is located at 620 University Rd. in Friday Harbor, about a mile and a half from the ferry landing.
