Friday Harbor Leo Club celebrates changing of the guard

New officers were installed, outgoing officers were honored, and the “rough” at San Juan Golf & Country Club was well-used, as members of Friday Harbor High School’s Leo Club gathered together for the group’s 6th annual end-of-the-year awards ceremony and golf “scramble”.
Established by the San Juan Island Lions Club in 2006, the Leo Club is Friday Harbor High School’s largest extra-curricular club, boasting a membership of roughly 35in the 2011-2012 school year.
Club President Audrey Olfshesky, valedictorian of Friday Harbor’s Class of 2012, handed over the reigns to incoming president Jacklyn Justiniano and vice president Marga Eshelman ceded the position to Ryan Rojas, who will serve as the club’s second in command in the coming year. The club’s 2012 officers include, Julianne Schrieber, treasurer, Isabel Gabriel, secretary, and board members Melanie Cope and Sophie Marinkovich.
One of 5,800 worldwide, Friday Harbor’s Leo Club has made its presence known over the last six years through an assortment of community service projects, including contributing to the San Juan Island Prevention Coalition’s New Year’s Eve Party and Children’s Festival, building a replacement dock on Egg Lake, completing a home-makeover for an elderly widow and with ongoing projects such as beach cleanups, delivery of firewood to seniors and helping to clean the ground of the island’s historical museum, day parks and community sports fields.
