Washington Republicans elected a strong majority of Romney delegates at their state convention in Tacoma. Eighty delegates and alternates were chosen, 60 from 10 congressional districts and 20 at-large delegates.
Unconfirmed reports listed five delegates and five alternate delegates elected to support Ron Paul, one delegate and one alternate for Rick Santorum, and the rest were committed to Mitt Romney. Attending the state convention, which started May 30 and ended June 2, were 1,500 delegates and 1,500 alternates.
Michelle Loftus, San Juan County Republican Chairwoman, led a delegation of 10 county Republicans. Loftus served as the Second Congressional District caucus chairwoman. The 2nd CD caucus elected three delegates and three alternates, all pledged to support Mitt Romney at the national Republican convention in late August.
Other Republicans active at the state convention were Cindy Carter, who served on the state platform committee, Alex Gavora, 2nd CD caucus secretary, and Rebecca Johnson, 2nd CD caucus parliamentarian. Alternates Brian Ehrmantrout and Curt Wickstrom both addressed the convention earlier in the week.
