The twenty-sixth annual Islanders Bank San Juan Island Celebrity Golf Classic takes to the links on June 1 and 2 at the San Juan Golf and Country Club. This year, and in future years, the charitable fundraiser memorializes John O. Linde, former San Juan Island Superior Court Judge and regular Celebrity Golf Classic entrant.

This year’s celebrity lineup includes actor John Aylward (you’ve seen him on ER and the West Wing, among many other shows), sports columnist Jim Moore, Sonny Sixkiller, Dave Villwock, Craig Tyrrell, Lisa Moretti and many other athletes and notables. Three-time PGA winner Ken Still from Tacoma will provide golfing tips and regale attendees with stories of his years on the PGA tour and as a member of the U.S. Ryder Cup team.

Chaired by Pat O’Day, events begin on June 1 with the CenturyTel Pro-am Horserace, followed by the CenturyTel Celebrity Reception.  On Saturday, June 2, after a short golf clinic provided by Ken Still at 9:30, a “shotgun start” at 10:00 puts all 18 teams on the course.  Each four-person team is paired with a visiting celebrity and will play for the honor of having their names posted on the John Linde Memorial Plaque, which will be exhibited at Islanders Bank.

After golf, celebrities, players and guests are invited to a cocktail hour at 5:00 p.m. with appetizers provided by local restaurants, followed at 6:00 p.m. by the traditional salmon barbeque, featuring 400 pounds of salmon provided by San Juan Seafoods and prepared by Chef John Vevjoda. An auction follows with Boo Boo Keane doing the auctioneering.

Among the non-profits benefitting from the event are Compass Health, Family Source, the Mullis Senior Center, the San JuanmHistorical Museum and Boy Scout Troop 90.

The golf tourney is, as always, sold out, but dinner tickets at $25 each can be reserved by calling Becki Day at 298-0458.
