Ranker discusses state budgets
Sen. Kevin Ranker, D-Orcas Island, will hold forums to discuss the state’s ongoing budget challenges and its effects on education, social services and other programs.
The first meeting will be at Fairhaven Middle School, 110 Park Ridge Road, Bellingham, Wash., 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26
The second will be at at the library 1220 10th Street, Anacortes, Wash., 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27

Shoreline Update information workshop
The San Juan County Association of Realtors is sponsoring a free workshop Sept. 17, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., at Friday Harbor Middle School to inform property owners about the Shoreline Master Program Update.

OPALCO rates rise for 140 members
Orcas Power and Light Cooperative’s cost-of-service rate covering small loads for barns, gates and other outbuildings will increase as of September. One hundred and forty OPALCO members will be billed a basic charge of $25.50 instead of $19.50 a month. Energy charges will be $0.0758 instead of $0.1115 per kilo-watt hour.
