C.J. Woods scored 31 points to propel the Wolverines to a 62-55 start-to-finish victory on the road at Coupeville, Wednesday, Jan. 29.
With leading scorer and fellow senior Otis Cooper-West sidelined for the contest, Woods picked up the scoring slack, tallying 13 first-half points and adding another 18 after the break. He knocked down 11-of-17 attempts from the free-throw stripe along the way, including four consecutive free throws that helped beat back a late-game rally by the Wolves, who poured in 24 points in the final period and kept the outcome in doubt until the final buzzer sounded.
Coupeville (2-13) trailed by only six points with 1:36 left in regulation.
Friday Harbor grabbed an early lead, tossing in 21 points in the opening period and holding Coupeville to just nine. They took a 10-point advantage into the locker room at the half, leading 33-23. Sophomore Luke Stromberg contributed 15 points to the Friday Harbor total.
With the win, the Wolverines climbed back to the .500 mark, at 8-8 overall.
Anthony Bergeron scored 20 points to lead Coupeville on the offensive end.
