Freshman Allie Galt tossed in a team-high 16 points and junior Tabatha Keane added 14, as the Friday Harbor girls basketball team claimed its first victory of the season with a 40-28 win over Tacoma Baptist, a Division 2B team, Friday, at La Conner.

“We needed that,” Coach Eric Jangard said about win No. 1 of the 2012-13 campaign. “But I really think that we could’ve had two.”

The following day, again on the road at La Conner, the Wolverines fell by three  points in a 31-28 loss to Naselle, also, like Tacoma Baptist, a Division 2B team.

With mixed results over the weekend, the Wolverines improved to 1-6 overall, and, following a six-point loss to Concrete at home, Dec. 11, dropped to 0-2 in Northwest 1A/2B League play.

With a first-victory under its belt, Friday Harbor this week launches into the teeth of its regional 1A conference schedule, facing Coupeville at home Thursday, and then taking on Nooksack Valley, also at home, on Saturday. Tip off is 6 p.m. against Coupeville and at noon against the Pioneers.
