Jim Garrett

June 20, 1948 — December 7, 2013

It was a cold north wind that blew on Dec. 7 and took the spirit of Jim Garrett away. Jim died after a brief battle with a very aggressive cancer, surrounded by family and friends. He was 65.

Jim was born James Ward Garrett to Eunice and Ward Garrett on June 30, 1948 in Juneau, Alaska.

The family moved to Everett Wash., where Jim graduated from Everett High School in 1966. Jim served his nation in the Army from 1967-1969.

He moved to Orcas Island sometime in the 1970s and was a deputy sheriff there from 1974-1978. Jim then moved to San Juan Island, where he continued his service to the sheriffs department until about 1980.

After he quit the sheriff’s department, he continued working on San Juan Island, building houses, commercial buildings, finish cabinets, and as a shipwright.

In 1999 Jim met the love of his life, Jeanie Rouleau Burns, and they were married in 2000. In his life, he enjoyed sailing, playing pool and driving his sports car.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Ward Garrett. He is survived by his mother Eunice, his sister Sue, his brother Rob, his wife Jeanie, his daughter Angela, and his twin granddaughters, Lii and Eden. He will be greatly missed.

Per Jim’s request there will be no memorial service, and his ashes will be scattered in Open Bay off Henry Island.
