The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Dec. 6

• A Friday Harbor resident called the Sheriff’s office to report having problems with her granddaughter going to school. A plan to help rectify the situation was discussed.

• The Sheriff’s office responded to a report of a burglary on San Juan. There was no evidence a crime was committed and the reporting party was unsure what/if anything was missing.

Dec. 7

• A deputy was serving a civil process on San Juan. The deputy received two firearms for safekeeping which were entered into evidence.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to Decatur Island about a theft. The deputy documented the incident, likely related to an ongoing civil issue regarding a property line dispute.

• A deputy responded to a report that a driver backed into an unoccupied vehicle on Lopez. The driver did not have insurance and was issued a citation.

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a domestic incident on San Juan. Dispatch said a mother and daughter were involved in the dispute. Deputies arrived, spoke with all involved, and determined the dispute was verbal.

• A deputy on Orcas removed a driver’s license from an arrested person that did not belong to the arrested person. The subject stated he had just found the license and was going to turn it in as found property.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and issued the driver a citation for open cannabis in a motor vehicle, and multiple warnings.

Dec. 8

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 55 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for suspicion of DUI, arrested the person for driving under the influence, and issued them a citation for speeding.

Dec. 9

• A deputy was dispatched to a welfare check in Eastsound and completed a report after an investigation was completed.

• On Orcas, a deputy conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 57 mph in a 40 mph zone.

• A deputy responded to a call about a sick animal near Eastsound. Following an investigation, the deputy found no viable concerns for the animal or its shelter.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Center Road and subsequently issued the driver a citation for speeding, 51 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of threats and arrested an individual for assault-third degree, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct, and booked them into jail pending an appearance in court.

Dec. 10

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a suspicious incident and found a smoldering firework that had just been set off and was in the roadway. The deputy disposed of the spent fireworks. Currently, there are no suspects.

Dec. 11

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a civil dispute. An investigation is underway on possible crimes reported by one of the parties involved.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of found property after persons who were out for a walk discovered a BB gun on the ground. The gun was submitted into evidence as found property.

Dec. 12

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a death and, after an investigation, determined that the individual passed away from natural causes, and the death was expected.

• A deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run of a vehicle in a parking lot on San Juan. The owner of the vehicle that was struck did not wish to pursue the matter criminally.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of theft onboard a ferry. After speaking with the involved parties, it was determined a theft did not occur.

• A deputy took a report of vandalism of a nativity scene on San Juan with a strange doll covered in what appeared to be fake blood. At this time there is no suspect information or workable leads.

Dec. 13

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of a possible burglary in progress. Deputies located the suspect, who was taken into custody for burglary in the first degree, arson in the first degree, and malicious mischief in the first degree. Probable cause was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
