Island artist Nancy Spaulding wins local license plate design

Submitted by the Terrestrial Managers Group and Madrona Institute

The winner of the San Juan Islands Specialty License Plate Design Contest is Nancy Spaulding. A local artist, Spaulding’s entry, “Evening Passage”, garnered the most votes out of the 47 entries. And as the winning artist, Spaulding will be treated to the ownership of the 001 San Juan Islands license plate. Competition officials also thank the talented local artists who submitted designs – the competition was fierce!

Once the required 3,500 signatures of Washington state residents are received, Senator Kevin Ranker, D-Orcas, will submit the license plate bill to the legislature.

The campaign is about halfway there, with 1,700 signatures on file, so be sure to keep a lookout for signature sheets at local upcoming events, like October’s Green Home Tours and fall farm tours or at madrona.org.

The San Juan Islands Specialty License Plate will generate grant funds for the conservation and stewardship of natural, agricultural, historic and cultural resources in the San Juan Islands.
