The first home game of the season kicked off Saturday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. for boys varsity football season. The match-up was bettween Friday Harbor the East Jefferson High Rivals.

Luckily the morning rain cleared leaving the athletes and audience able to stay dry and enjoy the game.

There was a good turnout of fans for both sides, and a lot of people getting excited about this team.

The Wolverines elected to kick off, giving the East Jefferson Rivals the first drive of the game. However, the Wolverines defense came ready to play and the ball was fumbled by East Jefferson and recovered by the Wolverines. That led to the first score of the game by Friday Harbor!

From there the game started really going the Wolverines way, with two more scores in the first quarter. The Wolverine defense held East Jefferson back time after time while the offense had some pretty great plays., including a run-in touchdown, and some great passes by Quarter Back Whillie McCutcheon. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 21-0 Wolverines.

As the game went on, particularly in the first half things for the Wolverines looked good. By the end of the first half, they had managed to keep their opponent from a single score. The half time score was 40-0 Wolverines,

The second half was less eventful, East Jefferson still could not break loose and find the endzone, or score at all. The Final score of the first game of the season was 53-0. The Wolverines had shut out the Rivals, which in football is something both very rare and inspiring.

Watching the tenacity and hard work these young men have put in is something special. They have the chance to go a long way this year.

The next home game will be this Friday, Sept. 20 agains Cle Elum-Roslyn High at 5 p.m.
