The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.
Jan. 13
• Dispatch received a report that someone on Orcas had received threatening calls. Deputies investigated and found that no laws were violated and completed a report to document the incident.
• A Lopez deputy discovered a downed-tree partially blocking the road, and cleared the roadway.
• A deputy on Lopez stopped a driver for speeding, 53 mph in a 35 mph zone on Mud Bay Road. During the stop, the deputy discovered the vehicle registration had expired several months ago, that the car was uninsured, and the driver’s license was suspended. The deputy issued the driver several tickets.
• San Juan deputies responded to a request for an agency assist. Adult Protective Services requested a welfare check of an individual in Friday Harbor. The person was found to be okay and reported no criminal activity.
• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle near Eastsound for speeding. The violator was issued citations for speeding and for not having a valid driver’s license.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of suspicious circumstances. An investigation indicated that no crime appeared to have occurred.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle because the owner had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license – 3rd degree. After searching the vehicle, the deputy arrested the driver for possession of methamphetamines. The driver was also issued citations for not having insurance and for an expired registration.
• Deputies were dispatched to a citizen dispute in the Eastsound area.
Jan. 14
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of vandalism to a vehicle over a 24-hour time period.The investigation was completed with no evidence, witnesses or suspects identified.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a citizen’s complaint about being harassed by another resident at the complainant’s home. No crime was committed, and the complainant was instructed on options for possible civil actions.
• On San Juan, a deputy investigated a reported hit-and-run to another’s vehicle. There are no known suspects.
• San Juan deputies investigated an incident of fraud.
• A deputy responded to a report of a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. No crime appeared to have occurred.
Jan. 15
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a theft. The investigation is ongoing.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a death investigation. The death did not appear to be suspicious in nature.
• A San Juan driver was observed operating an unregistered vehicle on a public roadway. Deputies stopped the driver of the vehicle and the driver admitted to knowing that the registration had expired more than 45 days ago. The driver was unable to provide proof of insurance, and was cited for both violations.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a request from a person who wanted to talk about a domestic incident that happened over a month ago. A report was taken and a follow-up is required with possible witnesses.
• A San Juan deputy observed a motorist traveling 68 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and was issued a verbal warning for an expired registration.
Jan. 16
• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a woman trespassing on private property.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle because the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license-third degree and was issued a citation for not having insurance.
Jan. 17
• A deputy on San Juan stopped a motorist for speeding in the 1500 block of Bailer Hill Rd. The vehicle was going 60 mph in a 45 mph zone. The driver had multiple previous contacts and citations for speed, and was cited for the new violation.
• On San Juan, a deputy stopped a motorist pulling a trailer that had no license plate and no taillights. The driver stated he knew he had neither, and that he hadn’t registered or properly equipped it because he couldn’t afford to. The driver was cited for the equipment violation and warned to register the vehicle.
Jan. 18
• A San Juan resident reported receiving an early-morning lewd text on a cell phone. The investigation is ongoing.
• A Lopez deputy was sent to check on a person after a friend was unable to reach them for a couple of days. The person was contacted, found to be in good health and was asked to call their concerned friend. No further action was necessary.
• A deputy on Orcas Island investigated a report of vandalism. The investigation is ongoing.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 63 mph in a 45 mph zone. The driver received a citation for speeding.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for a child restraint violation.
• A San Juan deputy observed a known driver operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. The driver was stopped and found to also be driving without an ignition interlock device. The deputy arrested the driver for the criminal violation and issued a citation for the license violation.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a single vehicle collision. Charges were sent to the court for driving with a suspended license and failure to use an ignition interlock device.
Jan. 19
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of threatening threats call.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a vehicle prowl on Quarry Lane. A report was taken and there are no suspects at this time.
• A deputy responded to a report of a fraud that occurred outside of San Juan County’s jurisdiction. The deputy completed a report and forwarded it to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to the burglary of a business near Map Corner. A report was taken and there are no suspects at this time.
• San Juan deputies located and arrested a subject on a warrant from the Department of Corrections. The person was transported to the sheriff’s office and booked into jail.
