The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

May 21

• Orcas Island deputies responded to a report of a traffic offense. The reporting party stated that a driver had driven through a work zone. The suspect was contacted, and the incident was documented.

• Orcas Island deputies responded to a report of fraud. Deputies received a report from the individual, and the incident was documented.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a motorcycle for failing to stop at a stop sign and expired registration. The rider was issued infractions for no endorsement and no insurance. Warnings were also given.

• An Orcas Island deputy investigated vandalism in the Doe Bay area. There were no witnesses or camera footage showing the vandalism. Possible suspects were interviewed, photos were taken and the incident was documented.

• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a report of a juvenile in a mental health crisis. The juvenile was taken to the hospital for further care. A report was completed.

• An Orcas Island deputy authored a report of theft that occurred sometime between the summer of 2024 and May 2025. The victim believes to know who may have stolen their property, however, there is no evidence at this time. The incident was documented and an investigation is underway.

• A Lopez deputy and Lopez emergency medical services responded to an individual experiencing a mental health crisis. The individual was evaluated by EMS and spoke with a crisis responder on the phone. The individual refused medical transport, opting to stay with their family.

May 22

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a mental health issue. A juvenile was taken into protective custody and transported to the hospital for treatment.

• A deputy was contacted about a theft in the Friday Harbor area. The person reported that a gas can was removed from a shed on their property. The incident was caught on security cameras. The investigation continues.

• A deputy on Orcas Island received a call about a broken car window. A report was taken.

• A deputy was dispatched to an order violation in the San Juan County area. The deputy contacted the caller and the person reporting the incident. A written statement was obtained. Probable cause was forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office as the location of the suspect is currently unknown.

• A deputy on Orcas Island took a report of stolen license plates.

• An Orcas Island deputy helped a citizen document a fraud incident. The incident involved someone who possibly opened a Postal Service PO box under the victim’s identity. The incident was documented, and the citizen contacted the USPS Postal Inspector for further assistance.

• An Orcas Island deputy assisted a local store owner with a civil harassment incident. The deputy provided the store owner with resources and documented the incident.

• A citizen went to the Sheriff’s Office to report a couple of instances of mail theft. The citizen provided the Sheriff’s Office with a written statement. There are no suspects at this time.

• A San Juan deputy was given an item for safekeeping. The item was entered into evidence.

• An Orcas Island deputy helped an Orcas Island ferry worker with documenting a disorderly conduct incident at the ferry terminal. The individual was given a warning for the conduct and informed that if it happened again, they would be trespassed from the ferry.

May 23

• A deputy was contacted about a theft in the San Juan Island area. The person reported that a package had been taken from their mailbox. A report was taken.

• A deputy was contacted at the Sheriff’s Office for a citizen assist. The deputy used the language line to communicate with the person. The incident was found to be an order violation. Probable Cause was prepared but the suspect was not located. A report was forwarded.

• The Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an abandoned backpack. The bag was located and entered into the evidence system for the owner to claim.

• A deputy was dispatched to a theft in the Friday Harbor area. A business had caught a juvenile stealing an item on their security camera. The juvenile was identified and arrested for shoplifting. A report was taken.

May 24

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a report of two young children walking alone along a private roadway. The caller stayed with the children until the deputy arrived. The children were eventually reunited with their parents.

• A deputy was contacted about a report of malicious mischief in the Friday Harbor area. The person reported that two of their vehicle’s tires had been damaged overnight. No suspect information at this time. A report was taken.

• A deputy stopped a driver on Tucker Avenue for not wearing a safety belt. The driver was issued an infraction for no safety belt and given two other equipment violation warnings.

• A deputy stopped a driver for not wearing a safety belt. The driver was issued an infraction for no safety belt and given a warning for equipment violation.

• A deputy stopped a driver for defective brake lights. The driver was issued an infraction for no insurance and given a warning for equipment violation.

• A deputy stopped a driver for not wearing a safety belt. The driver was issued an infraction for no safety belt.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a protection order violation complaint. After investigation, it was determined that the restrained party violated the order. The restrained party was arrested and booked into jail.

• A deputy stopped a driver for not wearing a safety belt. The driver was issued an infraction for no safety belt.

• A deputy stopped a driver for not wearing a safety belt. The driver was issued an infraction for no safety belt.

• A deputy stopped a driver and passenger for not wearing safety belts. The driver and passenger were issued infractions for no safety belts.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 44 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone on Lovers Lane. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was using a personal electronic device while driving on Main Street. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for being on their mobile phone and having an expired vehicle registration.

• A deputy stopped a driver for not wearing a safety belt. The driver was issued an infraction for no safety belt.

• A deputy stopped a driver for not wearing a safety belt and using a personal electronic device. The driver was issued an infraction for no safety belt, using a personal electronic device and no valid operator’s license.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a theft call. An outboard motor was reported as stolen from a property on Mackaye Harbor. The incident was documented.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a mental crisis. The deputies took an individual into protective custody and transported them to the hospital for treatment.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a hit and run. The juvenile driver was located and was arrested for driving under 21, consuming alcohol, minor in possession, and hit-and-run unattended.

May 25

• An individual was seen on camera attempting to forcibly enter a deputy’s patrol car in the Sheriff’s Office sally port. The individual was located and arrested for four counts of vehicle prowl, three counts of attempted vehicle prowl, resisting arrest, obstructing and malicious mischief.

• A deputy was contacted about a Missing Person. The person was concerned about an individual that has not been seen in a couple of weeks. A report was taken.

• Orcas Island deputies responded to a report of a citizen dispute. Deputies received the report and documented the event.

• Orcas Island deputies were dispatched to a call for a theft of a kayak cart. Upon arrival, deputies took the report from the reporting party and investigated the area. The event was documented, and the investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of malicious mischief in the Friday Harbor area. A window on a county building had been broken over the weekend. Security footage is being looked at. A report was taken.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took custody of a credit card that had been found in Friday Harbor the day prior. The owner was unable to be contacted. The credit card was submitted into evidence as found property.

• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a local business. The manager wished to trespass an individual one year after they caused a disturbance in their store. The individual was located and was served with the trespass notice. A report was completed.

• A deputy took a report of a runaway juvenile. The juvenile was located in a neighboring county. San Juan deputies responded to Anacortes to take custody of the juvenile and return her home. A report was completed.

• A death investigation on San Juan Island was conducted. An elderly female resident was found deceased in her home. The death is not considered suspicious. The family was notified and she was turned over to Evan’s Funeral Home.

May 26

• A Lopez resident was issued a dog-at-large infraction. This was preceded by a warning letter earlier this year.

• Orcas Island deputies took a report of a lost pet. Deputies searched the area where the animal was reported to have been seen. The pet was not located, and the event was documented.

• Orcas Island deputies were dispatched to a report of vandalism. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the reporting party and conducted an investigation. The event was documented.

May 27

• A deputy on Orcas Island arrested a person with an outstanding warrant.

• A deputy responded to the area of False Bay Drive on a reported DUI and hit-and-run. The subject was taken into custody.

• Lopez Island deputies were dispatched to a report of threats. Upon arrival, deputies conducted an investigation, and the event was documented. The reporting party did not wish to pursue charges.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a domestic incident, which had begun with a juvenile in a mental health crisis. The juvenile was taken to the emergency room. A report was completed.
