The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Aug. 3
• A deputy responded to a complaint of two boats moored without a permit at the Roche Harbor County Dock. Infractions were issued for moorage without a permit.
• A deputy on Lopez received a report involving a vehicle prowl. The wallet was later found with nothing missing.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a non-injury collision. The incident was documented.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a reported theft of a garden hose. A report was taken.
• A deputy on San Juan spoke with a citizen who is having an ongoing neighborly dispute. No law violation appeared to have occurred. A report was completed.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding 41 mph in a 25 mph zone.
Aug. 4
• A dog was turned in to a Lopez deputy. The owner was found a short time later.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 50 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone. The driver was issued an infraction for speed and was given multiple warnings.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The deputy’s report was sent to the prosecutor’s office for charges of DWLS 3rd degree and failure to transfer a title within 45 days. An infraction was issued for not having insurance.
• An off-duty deputy on San Juan Island observed a driver operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license on Aug. 3. Charges for DWLS 3rd Degree and failure to transfer a title within 45 days was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
• An Orcas deputy responded to a complaint at the Prune Alley construction site in Eastsound. It was reported a delivery truck driver was walking in the construction site. The truck driver was contacted and the incident was settled.
• An Orcas deputy arrested a male subject for trespassing at an Eastsound store.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to an extortion complaint. An investigation commenced.
Aug. 5
• A deputy was dispatched to a traffic accident in the San Juan Island area. The deputy arrived and contacted the people involved. One of the vehicles was making a left hand turn when the second vehicle struck it in the rear. No one was injured. A report was taken.
• Deputies on Lopez responded to a report of disorderly conduct. The individual was breaking their own items while remodeling a trailer. No physical contact or threats were made toward any other person. The individual said they would leave for a few days. A report was completed.
• A deputy responded to a report of vandalism in Friday Harbor. The caller reported that someone knocked over her plants outside of her apartment spilling the dirt out of the pots. There are no witnesses, no video, and no workable leads. No monetary damage occurred, however, the caller wanted the incident documented.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a welfare check on an anchored boat. A pickup order was issued through a mental health professional and the deputies contacted the individual, who was uncooperative. Due to the safety risks on the boat, deputies did not attempt physical force.
• A deputy was contacted about a fraud. The caller reported that there had been unauthorized charges on a credit card. The card had been canceled after the charges were discovered. A report was taken.
• A Lopez resident called for assistance with a hit-and-run collision that occurred in a grocery store parking lot.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an assault that occurred earlier in the night. An unknown subject assaulted a resident when they heard something on their property. There is no identifiable suspect or workable leads at this time.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a theft. The incident was investigated and found to be a civil issue between neighbors.
• A vessel struck a large rock at the entrance to Fisherman Bay. The Coast Guard, good samaritans, and a vessel assist stabilized the vessel, which was taking on a large amount of water.
Aug. 6
• An Orcas deputy took a report of a hit and run that occurred earlier in Eastsound.
• A deputy on Orcas received some found property. The deputy wrote a report and logged the property into the evidence room.
• A Lopez deputy was called regarding a citizen dispute over landscaping work being done near a property line.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was issued citations for DWLS 3rd degree and driving without an ignition interlock device.
Aug. 7
• A deputy was dispatched to a vehicle prowl in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy made contact with the caller. Nothing appeared to be taken and the vehicles were not damaged. A report was taken.
• A deputy was dispatched to a death investigation in the San Juan Island area. The deputy arrived and investigated the incident. The death appeared to be natural. A report was taken.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of fraud. It was reported that a credit card was stolen and $900 in fraudulent charges were made. An investigation is ongoing and a report was completed.
• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a domestic issue in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy arrived and contacted one of the individuals involved. The person advised that the incident was verbal. The other person involved was contacted by phone and confirmed the incident was verbal. A report was taken.
• A deputy on San Juan was in Kings Market when a child was reported missing. The child was located on video surveillance walking towards an office in the store. The child was located safe and unharmed, hiding behind a clothing rack. The child was returned to their parent. A report was completed.
• A deputy on San Juan took custody of old ammunition from a citizen who wanted to turn it in to be destroyed. The ammunition was documented and submitted into evidence for destruction.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an animal bite. The victim had their clothes torn by a dog that had left its property. The owner was contacted, a dog at large notice was issued and a report was completed.
• A deputy on San Juan took a delayed report of a hit-and-run accident. A citizen’s truck had been sideswiped while parked in Friday Harbor. A witness saw the incident and left a note. There is no further suspect information or workable leads at this time. A report was completed.
Aug. 8
• A deputy responded to a report of a found/abandoned bike on San Juan Island. A serial number check on the bike showed it was not listed as stolen in any reports. An owner was unable to be located and the bike was entered into the property room per policy.
• A deputy on Orcas received bail from a person with an outstanding warrant.
• A deputy on Orcas was assigned a fraud complaint. The complainant received a fraudulent email from an online vendor requesting she update her information. She provided the requested information, then realized she was being defrauded and canceled her credit card.
• A man reported missing on Lopez was found a short time later.
Aug. 9
• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a trespassing situation in the San Juan Island area. The deputy arrived and contacted the person calling. The incident turned out to be a property line dispute. An informational report was taken.
• A deputy on San Juan took a walk-in report of fraudulent activity on a credit card. An investigation is ongoing. A report was completed.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of threats. The deputy spoke with the involved parties. The necessary elements per RCW were not met for it to be an arrestable offense. The victim also wanted the sheriff’s office to be aware of what happened. A report was completed.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a trespassing call. An unidentifiable individual was captured on a home security camera crossing through a waterfront property to access a private beach. A deputy arrived on the property but the trespasser had already moved on.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of disorderly conduct. An individual forced their way into the theatre after being told there were no more showings for the night but then left. The victim did not want to pursue criminal charges. When the suspect was located, they ran from the deputy.
