Seat belt scofflaws, fender flares failure, mooring miscreant | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following.

Sept. 11

• A deputy responded to a Lopez business about a threats complaint. The reporting party stated she received a copy of a typed letter which contained suspicious statements about a violent movie. The writer claimed they would be coming to the business in the future. An investigation is being conducted.

• San Juan deputies responded to a reported harassment. It was determined that no crime occurred.

• A San Juan deputy issued a driver a citation for failing to stop at a stop sign on Egg Lake Road.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a driver for failing to have fender flares and for having under-glow lights on the vehicle. The driver was issued a citation for failing to have fender flares.

Sept. 12

• A deputy arrested a wanted person in Friday Harbor. The person was taken into custody and held until their arraignment.

• A deputy took a report of a theft from a residence in Eastsound. The suspect(s) took a valuable bass playing bow from a case.

• San Juan deputies were dispatched to a report of threats. It was determined no crime occurred. The incident was documented and forwarded to another agency.

Sept. 13

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance located off of Roche Harbor Road. The two subjects separated.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a vehicle collision. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence, hit-and-run and reckless endangerment.

• A deputy was dispatched to a citizen dispute on the San Juan.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of someone acting unusual at a local business in Friday Harbor. The deputies were able to speak with the subject and resolve the situation.

• A Lopez deputy was called regarding a sick deer on private property that the landowner believed needed to be euthanized. The caller was referred to state fish and wildlife officials.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a vehicle for an expired registration. The driver was arrested on a no-bail warrant and issued citations for expired vehicle registration, for not having insurance and for not having a valid operator’s license.

• A Lopez deputy issued a driver a warning for speeding and for an expired driver’s license.

• A deputy stopped a motorist on Village Road on Lopez after he saw the driver speeding and failing to use a turn signal. The driver was issued a ticket for failing to signal.

• While on patrol and driving a marked patrol car, a deputy on Orcas struck a deer.

Sept. 15

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence. Citations were also issued for traveling 34 mph in a 25 mph zone and for having open marijuana in the vehicle.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a broken down vehicle blocking Beaverton Valley Road. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked into the San Juan County jail.

• A Lopez deputy stopped and ticketed a driver for traveling 58 in a 35 zone on Center Road.

• A deputy on Orcas issued a boater a ticket for violating San Juan County Code 10.28.010, mooring at a public landing.

Sept. 16

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of a vehicle prowl in the Eastsound area.

• A Lopez resident reported damage to a mailbox that likely occurred when a vehicle struck it.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a rollover motor vehicle accident on Orcas Road. The driver was not with the vehicle on scene but was located at a nearby residence, uninjured. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Sept. 17

• A Lopez deputy took a report of a suspicious subject outside a local business.

• Lopez sheriff, fire and were sent to Shoal Bay on a report of a kayaker who had vanished in gale conditions. The kayaker was located safe at Spencer’s Landing Marina.

• A deputy was called about a suspicious subject and vehicle on Lopez. When the deputy checked the area, neither were located.

• A Lopez deputy issued a driver a citation for not wearing a seat belt.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist in the 1900 block of Fisherman Bay Road for driving while not wearing a seat belt. The vehicle registration was also expired. The driver was cited for failing to wear a seat belt and a warning for the registration.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision. The driver was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants.

• A Lopez deputy issued a driver a citation for not wearing a seat belt and a warning for speed in the 2700 block of Fisherman Bay Road.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 47 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and was issued a citation for speed.
