The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
April 23
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a report of illegal camping. Deputies found two vehicles that appeared to be set up for camping. The individuals were informed that camping was not permitted in the area. One driver was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license.
• Deputies responded to the report of an accident on Guard and Culver Avenue involving a small car striking the rear end of a delivery van. The female driver of the car was arrested for DUI and booked into jail.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an agency assist call. The deputy talked to the suspected vulnerable adult. It was discovered that they did not require and did not want help from the Sheriff’s Office. The incident was documented.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an animal at large in the Obstruction Pass area. The owner of the animal at large had multiple infractions for San Juan County code dog at large. The owner was subsequently issued an infraction for dog at large, third offense.
April 24
• A deputy on Orcas Island received a referral from Adult Protective Services. After investigating, the deputy determined the crime occurred in another state.
• A deputy was dispatched to a fraud incident in the Friday Harbor area. The person contacted reported that her ex-partner used her Social Security number to set up a pay app without their permission. Investigation continues.
• A Lopez Island resident reported the theft of a package from their mailbox.
• Lopez deputies responded to an Unwanted Person call. A homeowner wished to have a hired contractor removed from their property. The contractor left on their own before the deputies could contact them.
• An Orcas Island deputy assisted a local citizen by documenting suspicious behavior. The deputy authored a report documenting the incident and explained to the citizen that at this time the behavior was not a criminal matter. The deputy provided the citizen with resources to help.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 50 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 65 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.
• A Lopez citizen called to provide information possibly pertaining to a missing person. Upon further questioning, the information provided did not involve the missing person.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a motorcycle for traveling 64 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The rider was issued an infraction for speed, and additional warnings were given.
• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a found purse. The owner was contacted and was going to come back to the island to get the purse. The purse was booked into evidence for safekeeping until the owner can get the purse.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a potentially intoxicated individual attempting to leave the docked ferry in a vehicle. The individual was transported to the hospital for treatment and was later arrested for DUI physical control, suspected of using drugs.
• Orcas Island deputies apprehended a wanted fugitive in the Killebrew Lake area. The fugitive was placed into custody of the Sheriff’s Office without incident and then transported to Friday Harbor for booking.
April 25
• The Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle collision on Orcas Island. The driver was transported by emergency medical services, and the vehicle was towed from the scene. The contributing circumstances are unknown at this time.
• Deputies stopped and boarded a vessel near the south end of Lopez Island. The operator was cited for failure to obtain a boater’s education card. The incident was documented.
• A San Juan deputy took a report of property damage. The reporting party was not the property owner, who did not wish to speak to the deputy regarding the matter.
• A Lopez deputy was contacted for a potential fraud investigation. The involved party will need to provide banking documents to determine if a crime occurred.
• An Orcas Island deputy assisted a local resident with trespassing an individual from their property. The incident was documented, and the individual was served the trespass notice.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a dispute among family members. A report was completed. The issue is civil and needs to be addressed in court, not by a deputy.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was driving a vehicle with an expired registration on Lovers Lane. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for failing to renew expired registration greater than two months. Several verbal warnings were also issued.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 37 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone on Lovers Lane. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed, failing to renew expired registration and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
April 26
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 40 mph in a posted 20 mph speed zone on Crescent Beach Drive. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 62 mph on Spring Street. The driver was issued a criminal citation for reckless driving.
• An Orcas Island deputy assisted the U.S. Coast Guard in an investigation into a person boating while under the influence. The incident was documented, and the U.S. Coast Guard is actively investigating the incident.
• A Lopez deputy was called for a property damage complaint. The third-party caller had incorrect information, and the incident was unfounded.
April 27
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle rollover collision. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a power utility box and tree before coming to rest on its roof. The driver was arrested for DUI and minor in possession, and the two passengers were cited for minor in possession.
• A Lopez deputy was called for a person behaving erratically. No crime had occurred. The person was given a cup of coffee and transported to the ferry where they walked onboard to Anacortes.
• Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute in the Orcas Island area. Deputies arrived and contacted the people involved. The incident was civil involving a property line dispute. An informational report was taken.
April 28
• Century Link reported damage to equipment on Shark Reef Road. This was caused by an unknown erratic driver.
• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a report of a domestic. A person was taken into custody and booked into the San Juan County jail for assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
• A Lopez citizen called concerning a child custody issue. The matter was determined to be civil in nature.
April 29
• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver, a local, was subsequently issued an infraction for driving 38 mph in a 25 mph zone.
• Orcas Island deputies responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs.
• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a cat that was hit by a car on Roche Harbor Road. It is unknown who the owner of the cat is at this time.
• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a harassment complaint. After investigation, the deputy determined no crime had been committed. The deputy authored an informational report.
