Wooden boat race sets course for Yellow Island

The second annual Yellow Island Wooden Boat Race is Saturday, May 18.
Starting at noon at Orcas Island’s Deer Harbor Marina, the race will conclude after four hours. The course circles various islands and rocks in the area, as well as a race buoy located near the marina.
All sailboats may enter but only wooden sailboats are awarded prizes. Colorful burgees for first, second, and third place finishers will be awarded at a potluck/awards ceremony the evening after the race.
Entry fee is $15, collected at a skipper’s meeting at 9 a.m. at Deer Harbor Boatworks, and includes a continental breakfast, also available for crew and spectators at $8, provided by the Wooden Boat Society.
Boats without a current PHRF rating will have a temporary rating assigned to them by race organizers.
Participant burgees will be available for sale, with proceeds benefitting the San Juan Islands Wooden Boat Society, which coordinates the race and other local wooden boat activities.
