What’s up at the Fair Ag Tent?

It's a dizzying lineup of demonstrations, talks and presentations at the 2013 County Fair Agricultural Tent. Check out the daily schedule below

Agricultural Tent Demonstrations and talks:

WEDNESDAY:

11:30 a.m. — Cooking with Local Foods: Bill Messick of Coho Restaurant will cook up his version of delightful dishes with local ingredients

1 p.m. — Flower Arranging: Susie Wampler of Sweet Berry Farm always wows with her elegant and inspiring arrangements—learn her magic!

3 p.m. — Farmed Salmon: Longtime salmon recovery advocate Barbara Rosenkotter will discuss the potential impacts of salmon farming on the Salish Sea environment.

THURSDAY:

11:30 a.m. — Cooking with Local Foods: To Be Announced

1 p.m. — Historic Fruits of the San Juans: Madrona Murphy, botanist and genetic technician for Kwiaht, will elaborate the rich legacy of historic San Juan archipelago fruits, including our very own Orcas Pear!

3 p.m. — Seed Saving:  Come hear Charlie Behnke of the Lopez Community Land Trust Seed Library explain the whys and wherefores of seed saving.

FRIDAY:

11:30 a.m. — Cooking with Local Foods: Gretchen Allison, formerly of Duck Soup Inn, will delight us with farmers’ market vegetable tempura with dipping sauces.

1 p.m. — Shrubs, Switchels, & Bitters: Historic Elixirs: What the heck is a switchel?  Find out when Kari Koski of Kari’s Island Elixirs explains her local concoctions!

3 p.m. — Local & Regional Cheeses: Come taste and see the delights of local and regional cow and goat cheeses with Richard Daly of San Juan Cheese.

SATURDAY:

11:30 a.m. — Cooking with Local Foods:  See how easy it is to incorporate juicing with local fruits and vegetables into your life with Jeff Altman of the Green House Café!

1 p.m. — Farm to Market: Local historian and coordinator of Island Grown  Boyd Pratt will explain how farmers got their crops to market in the past and what locally-grown marketing looks like now.

3 p.m. — Fascinating Fungi: Curious about local mushroom growing?  Come find out from Amanda Zee and David Clausen of Sweet Earth Farm!
