Mullis Center, San Juan District update

Submitted by The Mullis Center.

The newly elected San Juan District Committee (DBA, Mullis Center) has named its Executive Committee as well as its three representatives to the Board of Senior Services Council of San Juan County (SSCSJC), the governing 501(c)(3) organization that provides oversight to Senior Centers on Lopez, Orcas and San Juan Islands.

The San Juan District’s Executive Committee includes Chair, Stephen Shubert; Vice-Chair, Patty Brightman; Secretary, Nancy Geist and Treasurer, David Bayley. San Juan District’s representatives to the SSCSJC Board of Directors are Susan Mazzarella, Patty Brightman and Stephen Shubert.

The SSCSJC Board of Directors is made up of three representatives from each of the three Island Districts, totaling nine Directors in all.

The District Committee is comprised of fifteen San Juan Island residents who bring deep financial background, organizational development and non-profit experience to the table. They represent the diverse interests of San Juan Island seniors and disabled adults. As they are learning about existing programs and processes, there is keen interest in engaging community, expanding Mullis Center membership and adding to our program offerings.

At this time, increasing Covid cases continue to limit our ability to re-open the facility for Community Lunches or other large in-person activities. We know how disappointing this is and we miss seeing you. We are fortunate to be able to offer several programs using Zoom. To stay up-to-date on reopening plans as well as current and upcoming programs, clinics, classes and workshops, you can sign up for our weekly E-Update by going to our website, www.mulliscenter.org.

On-site staff include Anna Coffelt Kuetzing, San Juan District Chief Administrator & Center Manager and Valdi Bjarnason, who maintains our building and grounds. In order to meet an increased need, we’ve expanded our footcare program and are pleased to welcome Suki Boydston, RN who joins our veteran footcare provider, Randi Dooley-Park, RN. Footcare appointments can be made by calling 360-378-2677. Gayle Rollins and Nancy Geist cook-up homestyle meals three times a week for 50-60 Meals on Wheels recipients. Rounding out our on-site staff who provide services and support for San Juan Island seniors and disabled adults, are County employees Debbie Haagensen, Senior Services Specialist and Gail Leschine-Seitz, Aging and Family Case Coordinator.

Private facility rentals are still permitted and rental fees help support our operating expenses. For more information, contact us at 360-370-5720 or info@mulliscenter.org.

As we look to 2022, we want to thank our community for all the encouragement and support through a challenging year. May you and yours have a happy and healthy holiday season.
