Library hires Assistant Director

Submitted by the San Juan Island Library

The San Juan Island Library is excited to announce Anthony Morris has joined its staff to serve as Assistant Director and Adult Services Manager. Anthony has moved to San Juan Island from Orem, Utah, where he was working as Technical Services Division Manager for Orem Public Library. He has library experience from both public and academic libraries and as a library service vendor. In his role Anthony will work closely with Library Director Laurie Orton to assist in managing the library, developing library policy, and providing services to community members.

Anthony has lived in several of the western states, but his formative experiences in libraries were as a child in the Pacific Northwest. He earned a Masters in Library and Information Science from Drexel University and has worked in libraries for more than 15 years.

“As a kid, I thought the library was a magical place, and that continues to be true at every library I work for. I’m so excited to be here and that I can contribute to this fantastic library’s mission,” Anthony said. Director Orton commented, “Anthony is a welcome addition to our library team. His experience in strategic planning and contributions to a new library building elsewhere will aid in our pursuit to build a new library on San Juan Island.”

Anthony especially appreciates how libraries connect local communities and is grateful for how supportive everyone has been here. “Everyone inside and outside of the library has been welcoming to my family and myself. We are excited to learn more about this amazing community.”

The Library will hold an open house reception on Thursday, July 27 from 4:30 – 6 p.m. in the Main Salon for library visitors to meet and get to know him. The public is welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

For more information, reach Anthony at amorris@sjlib.org or visit www.sjlib.org. Library cards are free of charge to islanders with proof of residency. In addition to its collections of materials to loan, the library also provides public access computers and WiFi. Library hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
