Submitted by WSU Extension San Juan County

A new federal regulation impacting produce farms is focusing on food safety. Learn about the new produce safety rule, criteria for farms to be exempt from compliance with the rule and modified requirements for farms selling primarily direct to consumers, restaurants and retailers.

Faith Critzer, Washington State University associate professor and produce safety extension specialist, will describe the regulation and answer specific questions about operations.

Two workshops will be held. The first is on San Juan Island from 9-11 a.m., May 30 at the WSU San Juan County Extension office at 221 Weber Way in Friday Harbor. The second is on Lopez Island, from 8:30-10:30 a.m., May 31. Contact Angie Freeman Shephard at angie.freeman@wsu.edu or 360-370-7664 for details.
