The San Juan Islands Museum of Art has been selected as a candidate for a state-funded grant. If awarded, the IMA could receive up to $650,000 toward construction of its visual arts museum on Spring Street.
IMA is ranked sixth among 14 finalists selected from a field of 50 applicants by the advisory committee of the Washington State Building for the Arts. The committee’s list of recommendations will now go to the legislative branch for funding consideration.
IMA Executive Director Charlie Bodenstab is enthused by the committee’s endorsement and by the potential grant. “We intend to meet their expectations and then some,” Bodenstab said.
Applicants were ranked on their ability to complete a project expediently, capacity to run a facility effectively, community need and availability of other funding resources. The state Building for the Arts advisory committee is a 12-person panel representing a variety of non-profits and affiliated firms.
