Helping Wolf Hollow during the San Juan County Fair

Submitted by Wolf Hollow

We are mid-way through the 2020 San Juan Island Community Foundation Fair Matching Grant Catalog. Two more days to donate — Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 15.

Why does Wolf Hollow need your support?

Currently, we have eight harbor seal pups in our care. Out of the more than 200 wild animal species we care for, harbor seal pups are the most expensive. Initially, they are fed a very specialized, high-fat formula on a regular schedule. Then they are weaned to fish. Seals eat a lot of fish. In addition, medications are often needed. Lastly, our highly regulated pool filtration system, which runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, doubles our normal electric bill. Federal grants sometimes help fund the seal program, but these are highly competitive and not guaranteed each year.

This is where YOU come in!

By donating in the next two days, the San Juan Island Community Foundation will match a portion of the donations. Wolf Hollow has a seal pup program cost of $10,000. As of this writing, $1,065 has been donated, not even halfway there. We still have a long way to go. Any amount generously donated during the next two days gets us that much closer to meeting our goal and saving these pups. Funding this program also means we don’t have to move resources from our other 199 species of animals we care for all year, such as bald eagles, great blue herons, red foxes, flying squirrels and all the rest of our wildlife.

During the COVID-19 crisis, we have received, cared for, and released as many animals as we normally do each year. Your support means the world to us and all the wildlife in need. Click on the donation link below to donate today. Help us reach our goal, Thank you!
