Ferry workers unfairly vilified by testy traveler | Letters

Published 4:37 pm Wednesday, December 11, 2013

This is in response to Frank Mercer’s letter this week criticizing the ferry workers. (“Ferries big flop in customer service,” Nov. 20, pg. 6)

My feelings are that the ferry system itself does not pay enough attention to the needs of the residents of the San Juan Islands, but I totally disagree with Mr. Mercer as to the attitude of the workers.

We have been riding the ferries for over 15 years and have been met with courtesy and helpfulness most of the time. Only two or three times at the most have we been aware of any impatience, but never any rudeness.

I am very sorry that he did not experience the welcoming friendliness of the workers that we have had since living up here.

His remark of not returning to the islands is certainly his loss.
