The League of Women Voters of the San Juans, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, is sponsoring a voter forum for Friday Harbor and county residents to meet the mayoral and school board candidates on the ballot for the November general election. The forum is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 9, at 5 p.m., at the Grange. Although only Friday Harbor residents are eligible to vote in the mayoral race, the League welcomes participation from all county residents.
The two mayoral candidates are Emilio Santiago and Evan Perrollaz, and both have confirmed their participation in the forum. The School Board candidates are Melanie Hess and Levi Wolf, and they have also confirmed they will be participating in the forum.
The general election is Nov. 4, and the San Juan County Elections Office will be mailing ballots to eligible Friday Harbor voters on Oct. 16.
The voter forum is a moderated event during which candidates will present introductory statements and respond to questions, within time limits. The League of Women Voters requires civil discourse in forums, and all questions to candidates must meet that requirement.
The League of Women Voters welcomes questions for candidates in advance of the forum. Please submit any questions to pres.lwvsji@gmail.com. Please keep questions as succinct as possible, and note that questions may be combined or edited. The forum will be recorded and available for viewing on the elections website and on the League’s website.
