Applications for Soroptimist awards available

Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor is now accepting applications for the Women’s Educational and Training awards, to be given out in the Spring of 2023. Two types of awards are available, each with differing eligibility requirements.

The ‘Educational Opportunity Award’ helps women in overcoming personal difficulties and bettering their lives through education and training. The recipient may use the cash award to offset any costs of her education or training, such as tuition, books, childcare, or transportation. This $2000 award is available to women who are residents of San Juan County, who are enrolled in, or accepted into, an undergraduate degree or career training program, and who can demonstrate financial need.

The ‘Fellowship Award’ is given to a woman who is established in a profession or business, and who is returning to school for postgraduate study at an accredited college or university leading to an advanced degree. This $3000 award is available to women who are residents of San Juan County.

Applications for both awards must be postmarked by Jan. 27.
