The Fourth of July was a great day for a picnic and an even better day for kids on San Juan Island. The annual Pig War Picnic presented by the Kiwanis Club of Friday Harbor was again a great success. The proceeds from this event go back to the children of Friday Harbor. We were very pleased to give $11,400 this year to 18 graduating seniors who will use the scholarship to attend colleges all around the country. Kiwanis promotes leadership, responsibility, further education, good citizenship among other traits. Thank you San Juan Island community and guests for supporting this very important project. We hope to see you again next year for our famous barbecue pulled-pork sandwiches.

We would like to thank our sponsors for their support: Islanders Bank; Kings Market; Ace Hardware; Heritage Bank; Kenmore Air; Ron’s Island Meats; Brown’s Home Center; Chicago Title Insurance Co.; and Honeywell Charitable Foundation; Aeronautical Services Inc., Chris Lawson Excavation; Community Treasures; Craig Star Excavation; Farmers Insurance; Flagship Tents; Friday Harbor Suites; Harbor Rental and Saw; Heuristic Enterprises; Island Petroleum Services; Islanders Insurance; MEM Enterprises; Lawson Construction; Petro San Juan; Printonyx; Roy’s Island Buzz; San Juan Business Park; San Juan County Fair; San Juan Historical Society; San Juan Interiors; San Juan Propane, San Juan Sanitation; San Juan Surveying, Inc., Sound Financial Planning, Inc., Tooth Ferry; and Windjammer Carpet Cleaning. We thank you so much.

The San Juan Conservation District crew and Kiwanis San Juan little league team were a wonderful addition to the picnic and thank you for your help.

We would also like to recognize Mr. Steve and his wonderful group of kids, the Harmoneers who sang at the picnic. Please come back next year to entertain us.
