A pessimistic outlook | Letter

After listening to this mornings’ news, I find that I am horrified at the implied direction the nation is heading. We have an entire political body that is willing to destroy democracy. The reasons are several. There are those who think that they have been robbed and that the election was stolen. They have proven that they are willing to use violence to address the imagined wrongs against them. Others believe that they are following God’s will in putting Trump back in the Whitehouse. Still, others are filled with so much hatred for anyone who they begrudgingly know is right, like Gollum, in the Ring, they will destroy themselves to gain that power and to hurt or destroy those they feel are looking down at them. It gets down to this; if Trump doesn’t win, or if he’s convicted and imprisoned, they will again try to overthrow the government with violence. I know that this is an extreme outlook, but what I see and hear leads me to this belief. I hope I am wrong.
