American Camp beach near Grandma’s Cove gets pummeled by large waves carrying drift wood logs

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a high wind warning is in effect for San Juan Island until 7 p.m. this evening.

Wind: southerly winds are expected at 35 to 45 mph with gusts of 55 to 60 mph. The strongest winds will occur near water.

Timing: the southerly winds will continue to rise this morning. Peaking midday through afternoon, then easing later tonight.

Impacts: The gusty winds may blow down trees and branches. Power outages are possible.

Recommended actions:

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
