The Wolverines weathered an early onslaught of defensive pressure to claim a convincing double-digit win on the road Tuesday over Orcas, notching a fourth consecutive win in league play.
Junior Allie Galt tossed in 13 points to lead all scorers and point guard Taylor Turnbull scored a season-high 10 points in the Jan. 6 contest between the inter-island rivals.
Down by three points at the end of the first period, Friday Harbor catapulted out in front by outscoring the Vikings 18-10 in the second quarter and led 25-20 at the half. They outscored the Orcas 18-11 after the break to seal a 43-31 win and remain undefeated and atop the Northwest 2B/1B League standings, at 4-0.
“League games on the road are always tough and Orcas is a difficult place to play,” Coach Eric Jangard said. “They always come out playing fast and hard, especially at home. They pressed us the whole game but the girls stayed composed and show a lot of poise against some tough defensive pressure.”
With the victory, the Wolverines improved to 7-2 overall on the season. Madie Kincaid contributed 10 points to the cause and Lili Wood had nine.
