Below is an update on the post-season opportunities for the San Juan Island School District winter sports teams. Visit the league website at www.nw1a2bathletics.com for more information on seeding and brackets for each sport.

Wrestling

Three members of the Friday Harbor High School wrestling team will be headed to Kalama High School on Saturday, Feb. 10 to compete in the regional wrestling tournament. The competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. Team members earned their way to the regional event by placing first or second in their weight class at a sub-regional tournament during the week of Jan. 29. Competitors at this week’s event will need to finish fifth or better in their weight class to advance to the state tournament in Tacoma on Feb. 16 and 17.

Girls basketball

The Friday Harbor High School girls varsity basketball team finished second in league this season and will now be the District 1 No. 2 seed into the bi-district tournament. As the No. 2 seed, the girls will play Seattle Lutheran (the District 2 No. 1 team) at 4:45 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Seattle Lutheran. Win or lose, the girls will play again on Friday, Feb. 16 at Sedro Woolley. However, with a win on Feb. 14, the girls would qualify for the regional round of the state tournament and play that Friday for the district championship and to improve their seeding in the regional round. A loss would put them in a game on Friday where the loser is out and the winner goes to state.

Boys basketball

The Friday Harbor boys varsity basketball team finished the regular season as the Northwest 1B/2B league champions. They will enter the bi-district tournament as the No. 1 seed and host a first-round playoff game at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13. The boys will play the winner of the La Conner versus Seattle Lutheran game, which will be played on Saturday, Feb. 10. Like the girls, win or lose, the boys will play again at Sedro Woolley, but their game would be on Thursday, Feb. 15. Also, like the girls, if they win on Tuesday, and the boys will advance to the regional round of the state tournament and play for the district championship on Thursday. If they lose, the boys would play a game on Thursday, where the loser is out and the winner goes to state.

Check the Journal for updates on the games.
