A foul-prone Friday Harbor squad overcame a chorus of whistles and a 28-point performance from the league’s most prolific scorer to clinch a 58-39 win Tuesday at home over Concrete.

With the victory, Friday Harbor (9-2 league, 10-9 overall) tallied win No. 4 in a row and positioned itself to complete a 20-game regular-season schedule with a winning record. With a defeat of Mount Vernon Christian at home Friday in the regular-season finale, the Wolverines would finish league play at 10-2 for the second straight year. Tipoff is 6 p.m.

The Wolverines, nursing a narrow lead, shattered what had been a seesaw battle as Preston Ukra and Alex Jangard knocked down back-to-back three-pointers with three minutes left before intermission. The home team grabbed the contest by the throat after closing out the period on a 12-0 run to end the opening half with a 30-12 advantage.

The Lions proved hard to shake, however, feasting at the foul line in the second half. Sophomore sensation Tyler Clark, who tossed in a game-high 28 points, drained all eight of his free-throw attempts after the break and the Lions — 12-of-14 from the charity stripe for the game — netted the bulk of their points at the free-throw line in the second half.

The Wolverines had six free-throw attempts in 32 minutes of play and knocked down three.

Senior Mike Ausilio tallied a team-high 13 points despite early foul trouble and Parker Lawson, who also played limited minutes because of fouls, added 11. Jangard contributed 10.

Though Clark lit up the scoreboard, the Wolverines held the rest of the Lions to just 11 points combined. They sealed the win despite trading baskets with the visiting team after the break. Concrete fell to 2-9 in league and 4-15 overall.

The Wolverines open post-season play Tuesday at Lynden Christian (10-9).
