Friday Harbor finally hit pay dirt in the fourth quarter as quarterback Don Galt and running back Roy Taylor hooked up on a 30-yard touchdown pass.

But a lone TD pass proved too little and much too late as the Wolverines fell 41-7 Oct. 15 at Nooksack Valley in a clash between Division 1A regional rivals.

The Pioneers (5-2, 4-1) scored early and often. They turned their first possession of the game into a 70-yard scoring drive, tallied another TD in the opening period and then took a 21-0 lead into the locker room at the break.

They sealed the victory, their second over the Wolverines this season, by adding 20 more points to the advantage in the third quarter.

Galt, a sophomore, put up impressive numbers, hitting on 10-of-18 pass attempts for 136 yards, with one TD and no interceptions. Taylor tallied 50 yards on two receptions, senior wide receiver Tyler Pruitt hauled in three for 50 yards as well, and fellow senior Cody West had four for 26 yards.

Though the Wolverines achieved some success in the air, they found little room to run. They were held to 89 yards on 40 carries. The Pioneers meanwhile amassed 470 yards of total offense, 243 on the ground and 227 through the air.

With the loss, the Wolverines fell to 1-7 overall and are winless in five tries against their 1A Northwest Conference foes, Lynden Chrisitan, Meridian and Nooksack Valley.
