The Friday Harbor High School boys soccer team held off the Evergreen Lutheran Eagles, Saturday, Nov. 3, for 80 minutes of regular play and two, five-minute overtimes to lose a shootout of 13 kicks. Only a single kick was deflected by the two goalkeepers, which decided the game 1-0 in favor of the Eagles.

The first half of the game was played in a drenching rain and it took a while for the Wolverines to settle. The rain stopped for the second half, but the fairly even battle ended in a 0-0 draw. Both teams made a number of goal attempts, but neither was able to score. Coach Andy Duke felt that the defenses of both teams performed well and neither team was able to create good scoring opportunities. Junior goalkeeper Jack Knapnik’s action in front of the net was key to keeping the Eagles in check.

This championship game for the Boys 1B and 2B soccer district playoffs was held at the Interlake High School field in Bellevue on Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines finished in second place. Both the Wolverines and the Eagles move on to the State 1B and 2B Championship Tournament Nov. 8-17.
