Friday Harbor High School’s Fastpitch team had a week full of conference wins by hitting their way past Concrete (11-1), and over Orcas Island (12-0).

On Tuesday, the Wolverines took on the Concrete Lions and came out on top after two shaky innings. The girls dominated the Lions, winning their first league game, beating them in just five innings.

A highlight of that game came when Friday Harbor senior Alexa Mora turned a slap hit into a double, sailing it over the Concrete shortstop’s head.

When the Lions were up to bat they had a runner on first who tried to steal second base, but the Wolverines were on their A-game that day and caught the runner in a pickle, and Friday Harbor sophomore Thea Seitz tagged her out.

This author, Friday Harbor senior pitcher Emma Wickman, kept the hitting game going by hitting a triple, scoring two runners.

The Wolverines also went head-to-head with the Orcas Island Vikings at home on Friday, and hit their way to victory. In the first inning alone, Emma Wickman struck out the Vikings first three batters, and then the team scored a whopping eight runs.

The coaches felt so confident in their players that they put in some of the non-starters. Freshman Soma Andrews hit a line drive to right field, and made it a stand up double. Friday harbor sophomore pitcher Grace Pauls got three strikeouts, one that ended the game. The Wolverines are now 2-0 in their league, and 5-3 overall.

Both games were cut short in the fifth inning because the Wolverines had ten runs on their opponents. The Wolverines next home game is at 4:30 p.m, Tuesday April 18, against the LaConner Braves at Linde Fields.
