The Wolverines scored the first two and the last two points of the game.

But in between, Burlington-Edison scored a whole bunch of buckets of their own to deal the Friday Harbor boys basketball team a 66-41 defeat at home Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the season opener for both.

Senior Otis Cooper-West knocked down a 15-footer on the first possession of the game to give Friday Harbor a 2-0 advantage, the Wolverines only lead of the non-conference contest.

The Tigers quickly tied the scored with a bucket of their own and by capitalizing on a full-court press, and a flurry of Friday Harbor turnovers, outscored the Wolverines 20-7 over the next seven minutes to grab a 22-9 lead by the end the opening period of play.

Burlington-Edison’s Blake Rawlins tossed in 20 points to lead all scorers. Isaak Davies and Carlos Navarro had 18 and 12, respectively, for the Northwest Conference Division 2A Tigers.

Turnovers proved costly early on, as Friday Harbor failed to keep pace with the Tigers on the offensive end. The Wolverines trailed 38-17 at the half. Burlington-Edison matched Friday Harbor basket-for-basket in the second half to seal its first victory of the season.

Cooper-West tallied 13 points to the lead the Wolverines offense, and Dylan DeMaris, the only other Friday Harbor player to score in double digits, had 11.
